ViCi defeated Flash in the grand final 2-1 of WESG 2017 China Finals and became the first confirmed team at the whopping $1.5 million World Finals in March 2018.
Thirty teams from all around of China qualified for the event from their respective qualifiers held in Suzhou during the weekend. Due to the nationality restriction, the more notable teams such as ViCi, Flash and TYLOO had to use replacements for WingHei "Freeman" Cheung, Andrew "kaze" Khong and Hansel "BnTeT" Ferdinand respectively, who couldn't participate.
The biggest surprise or disappointment at the event was the top Chinese squad TYLOO failing to secure their position at the WESG 2017 World Finals or the APAC Finals, following an early exit in the quarter-finals against their rivals Flash, who managed to come out on top in the tight 2-1 series, despite both teams using stand-ins.
ViCi, Flash, New4 and MAX were the last four teams remaining, as they reached the semis. Bin "Savage" Liu and co. moved past New4 with a convincing 2-0 series, earning themselves a spot in the grand final. Meanwhile, Flash had a rough time against MAX in the other semi-final, but managed to pull off the reverse sweep in the end, 2-1.
In the third place decider, New4 overcame MAX in two straight maps, booking their spot at the WESG 2017 APAC Finals. The grand final kicked off with a first map overtime win going in the favour of ViCi on Cobblestone, but QiFang "Karsa" Su's crew quickly equalized the series 1-1, by winning their map pick on Inferno, 16-12 with a strong T side showing. However, ViCi applied the finishing blow on the deciding map (16-13 de_train) and successfully obtained their spot at the WESG 2017 World Finals.
